Full disclosure: I'm biased about Ross Priory — because in 2012, it's where I got married. That Gothic front door, the lawns running down towards Loch Lomond, the hills across the water: I didn't just learn this venue as a celebrant, I lived it as a groom. So when I lead a ceremony here, I know exactly what your day feels like from your side of the aisle.
A hidden gem on the south shore
Ross Priory is one of Loch Lomond's best-kept secrets — a Gothic-revival country house at Gartocharn, held by the University of Strathclyde, with gardens and lawns that roll toward the water and a view up the loch that stops conversations mid-sentence. It has none of the conveyor-belt feel of the big wedding estates: your day is unhurried, the rooms are intimate, and the photographs — house, loch and Ben Lomond in one frame — speak for themselves.
What my own wedding taught me
Standing where you'll stand changes how I write ceremonies here. I know the nerves in the morning rooms, which door you'll want to walk in by, where the light lands on the lawn in the late afternoon, and the exact moment the view will catch your guests off guard. Fourteen years on from my own vows, leading a couple through theirs at Ross Priory is about the fullest of full-circle moments my job offers — and as a Humanist Society Scotland celebrant, I'll make every word of it legally binding and entirely yours.
