Cats Castle sits above the village of Cardross, between Dumbarton and Helensburgh, with lawns running towards the Firth of Clyde and the hills of Renfrewshire across the water. It's a proper Victorian baronial house — turret, high ceilings, oil paintings and cornicing — and on a wedding day it strikes that rare balance: grand enough to feel like an occasion, intimate enough that your ceremony fills the room.

Why Cats Castle works
My advice from the front of the room: use both halves of the place. The interiors — that painting-hung hallway, the high-ceilinged rooms — give you a warm, characterful ceremony whatever the weather, and the lawns give you the Clyde for your photographs afterwards. Because humanist ceremonies are legally binding anywhere in Scotland, you can even take your vows outside with the water behind you and keep the rooms in reserve.
